Wrexham Eye Surgery

The Wrexham Eye Surgery day clinic is located on Papanui Road, Merivale, and is a Drumreed Construction design build project. The building is a fully serviced surgical unit, consisting of two operating theatres, post-op rooms, clean and dirty utility rooms, a large pre-op area and staff office areas.

As medical facilities require ample ceiling space to run services and plenty of space for plant, creative thinking was required to accommodate the services fit out. The high ceilings have been designed to give a great sense of space, and the ceiling voids are large enough to house all hydraulic, electrical, and mechanical services.

As the project has been built in a residential area and on TC3 land, the architectural design was carefully considered during the design build process, to ensure resource consent would be granted. An alternative method of constructing the building’s foundations was devised to reduce vibrations, and the design resulted in a building that remains in keeping with its surroundings, resembling a stunning home, rather than a commercial building.
