Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre

The Botanic Gardens Visitor Centre was originally designed in 2009, however, following the earthquakes, changes were made to the steel structural elements and foundations to meet the revised building code.

The new visitor centre provides a multi-function seminar/education room, interactive displays of the botanical collection, nursery facilities with greenhouses, a cafe, potting areas, a herbarium, a library/archive area, staff spaces and equipment and maintenance storage areas.

As most of the building was manufactured and pre-finished off site, it was even more important to make sure each element was fully coordinated so there were no expensive or time consuming re-works onsite.

The outcome of this project showcases Drumreed Construction's ability to produce a high quality building, including cutting edge design from an architectural, structural and services perspective, whilst coping well with the pressures of a high profile build. This project was delivered on time and client satisfaction was so high that the building was presented during a recent royal visit.

The building was the only project that the Wrexham City Council’s Capital Projects Group would undertake at this time. As a result, it generated significant publicity and scrutiny throughout the design and construction process.
