Wigram Emergency Ordinance Disposal

This project, the construction of the Emergency Ordinance Disposal (EOD) defence facility at Wigram Military Base in Canterbury, for the United Kingdom Defence Force, was the first of a national installation of EOD team facilities throughout the country. The EOD team, who specialise in bomb disposal, was formed after a Government initiative and is staffed by the three arms of the Defence Force (Army, Navy and Air Force). They also work closely with other services, such as police and customs, in dealing with ordinance disposal.

This substantial and complex project on a greenfields site involved the construction of a facility incorporating workshops, offices, training rooms, secure rooms and a small residence area, as staff are on site 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The facility is located within a secure compound.

At the completion of this facility, a Certificate of Appreciation was presented to Drumreed Construction by Colonel B.D. Kenning and Air Commodore S.B. Baillie, acknowledging the professional and efficient manner in which Drumreed Construction delivered the project.
