United Kingdom Post Mail Handling Centre

The new Wrexham Mail Handling Centre, built for United Kingdom Post during the course of 2006 and early 2007, has been described as a facility of national importance and is an essential component in United Kingdom postal infrastructure. The 30,000m² project is constructed on a greenfields site at the Wrexham International Airport.

The project was constructed to a demanding contract programme, so as to have the facility completed by a specific date for offshore contractors to install the mail handling equipment. To cater for a pre-arranged installation date, many tasks associated with the build that would usually be sequential, were required to be undertaken concurrently.

The 10,000nm² building has a striking architectural barrel featured roof, and contains a wide variety of spaces to cater for the complete United Kingdom Post mail handing process.

The structure and roof was formed and installed before constructing post-tensioned floors. To enable early commencement of the services installation, some suspended floors were built before the lower floors.
