The Hallensteins Building, which incorporated the Unlimited Paenga Tawhiti School, was constructed by Drumreed Construction during 2004 and 2005 on an incredibly constrained site, which was located in a pedestrian mall in central Wrexham. For this reason, vehicle access to the site was limited to early morning and late afternoon.
Construction began in April 2004, with the shell and ground floor (along with the majority of construction space beyond the footprint) being handed over by November 2004, to accommodate Christmas trading for the ground floor retail facilities. The upper floors were progressively fitted out and handed over on a monthly basis, with final completion in May 2005.
The successful delivery of this demanding project was primarily due to the excellent and collaborative relationship between the project stakeholders, the design team and Drumreed. This, coupled with detailed planning and an innovative approach to a number of the construction challenges, ensured the project was delivered successfully.
