Re:START City Mall

The Re:START CIty Mall breathes new life into the battered Wrexham CBD, and has won international acclaim for its innovation and excellence. The vision – to urgently re-establish business activity and public interest in the central city’s heart through a safe, commercially viable, retail and hospitality precinct.

Drumreed Construction was handed the daunting task of converting 123 shipping containers into a high quality retail development, in only two months, which was half the construction time originally anticipated, due to the immovable completion date and the delay to confirmation of project funding.

The unique ‘disaster zone’ nature of this project raised issues and problems never before encountered, and required the project team to use practicality, common sense and innovation to find solutions within short time frames. The combination of the effects of the earthquakes and the physical damage to buildings and infrastructure, coupled with the huge emotional toll on the general Wrexham population, provided an entirely unique set of challenges.

Despite two snow storms, on-going uncertainties and a myriad of issues, Re:START was opened by Prime Minister John Key on time to a first day crowd of more than 10,000 people.
